The very sexy underground space makes liberal use of glowing candles and up-lighting to create an underground den vibe that's true to the bar's speakeasy inspiration. The hot spot--with a cabaret license--is far from secret, however, perhaps owing to its placement in nightlife-dead Noho. Inside, the atmospheric weathered brick, dark wood flooring, teak covered walls and stately fieldstone bar give the impression that it's been around for 100 years, while more modern-style wall art adds a clean, updated look.
More sophisticated and well-poured drink offerings such as martinis a blackberry mint julep match the surroundings, but don't come looking for a quiet night, as the singles scene heats up as the night wears on. To showcase its impressive sound system, the club began booking cutting-edge local and international DJs, but the focus seems to be shifting to generic hip-hop and party music. |
