Scantily clad burlesque dancers and swinging trapeze artists will be the first thing you notice as you enter the main room of this midtown club. Once inside you'll find yourself swimming in a sea of red: red velvet curtains, striped red banquettes, red painted walls and spinning red spotlights. Unfortunately, the Saturday night crowd isn't nearly as fiery as the decor--mostly girls in hip huggers with escorts in tow and assorted Eurotrash who insist on wearing their sunglasses at night, dancing to remixes of Madonna and Deee-Lite.
As a vaudeville, cabaret and overall performance venue, the space is ideal: The ornate, gilded stage attracts seasoned NYC artists like burlesque queen Ami Goodheart and her gorgeous go-go gals. DJs spin hip-hop and other edgier fare in the intimate upstairs lounge. With weekly themed parties, you may want to consider coming on a weekday to avoid the 20-something hook-up crowd |
