Down a silver-sprayed staircase and through a labyrinthine hallway slung with photographs lies a subterranean disco that jumps. Gothic-bricked enclaves festooned with dark velvet cushions read like Cher's Sanctuary Catalog showroom, but a DJ that leans on the rap and R&B keeps this 20-something, dress-for-success crowd pumping into the wee hours. Exposed pipes and all that chrome give New York a runner-up Geiger room to follow Limelight.
The accommodating bar staff mixes up a mean apple martini. Backlit, perforated metal sheets are put to good--if a bit overworked--use, covering the footrests on the metallic bar and even sheathing an entire VIP pod in the rear. Wall huggers may take a while to figure out that there's a whole other room upstairs with better sound and more air, as well as Royalton-style latrines.
