Located right off Broadway in the outskirts of Soho, Gatsby's is a destination spot for post-frat boy weekend partyers who, after numerous shots and pints, spill out onto the street and scream hello to anyone with breasts. The F. Scott Fitzgerald literary reference is all but lost on this place, which, in appearance and vibe, is more akin to the Hard Rock Cafe than an intellectual salon.
The well-scrubbed interior is somewhat romantically decorated with candles and soft, cozy seating that surrounds the bar area. Although the weekends can be a bit over-the-top, the bar's a fine place for a relatively private, quiet, midweek afternoon drink. The bartenders display ample amounts of cleavage and prepare mixed drinks with the precision of a blind man, but stick with the great beer selection and you will leave with a much more pleasant buzz. |
