Downtown's club of the moment closely resembles the apartment everyone wishes for. Pristine hardwood floors, Eames chairs and chocolate-brown leather couches combine for a mod appeal. A raised VIP section gives 10 banquettes a bird's-eye view over the dance floor, as well as a fast-track entrance into the sleek space. The crowd--a mix of music industry insiders such as Stretch Armstrong and members of the Roots and Sugar Hill Gang, glossy fashion types and Williamsburg hipsters--mingles seamlessly.
While the club does have a velvet rope, the doorgirl tends to be democratic about entry. If you're young and with it, you shouldn't have much of a problem. And, with the occasional exception, you'll get away without paying a cover for the privilege of partying in the posh space. The friendly attitude extends to the bartenders who serve up drinks generously proportioned, well-mixed and with a smile. |
